Chief Architect / Tech Lead / Manager
Serving as chief architect, technical lead, and team manager for the 11-person,
Heidelberg-based, Server Operations & Software Development team for the U.S.
Department of Defense's (DoD) automated logistics tracking system, known as Radio
Frequency-In Transit Visibility (RF-ITV).
Architected and lead the development and integration of a new cross-platform
(Unix/Solaris and Windows 2003 Server) subsystem, called ITV-I (In Transit Visibility
- Integrated). Evolved it from initial customer vision, proof-of-concept prototype, iterative/spiral development, fielded/integrated the subsystem into four of the five regional RF-ITV server sites, expanded the team from 2 to 11 people as the demand
for services increased, and provided guidance in maturing the team's software
development processes.
Utilized integration/customization of a variety of commercial industry-leading
products and technologies: ESRI ArcIMS, ArcGIS, ArcSDE, MS Windows 2003 Server,
Active Directory, .NET, HTML, Javascript, ASP, XML, Sun/Solaris, Perl, Oracle 10g
RDBMS, and MS SQL Server. Introduced many unique, "cutting edge" capabilities into
DoD supply chain management including:
- A flexible, scalable, secure, and redundant data processing module that connects with multiple, disparate satellite GPS systems mounted on 4,000+ commercial and military logistics trucks, trains, barges, etc. mostly in Europe, Afghanistan, and the
Middle East, providing near-real time vehicle movement, cargo manifest, and schedule/route data.
- A geographic map-based web application, delivered via SSL/HTTPS, that enables the user to query/track shipments, convoy vehicles, trains, ships, etc., both geographically or textually, including "drill-down" into the carriers to see their cargo shipment details.
- An outbound XML web service to provide ITV-I data to other key logistics systems.
Currently carrying three project responsibilities: Team Manager, Software
Team Manager - Duties include project task management, performance evaluations, providing technical task status reports to the customer, presenting RF- ITV capability briefings at forums, conferences, workshops, etc., and serving as primary point of contact to the government customer for all server-related issues
2. Software Development Chief Architect / Tech Lead - Duties include requirements analysis, software architectural and detailed design guidance, relational database design, defining and assigning technical tasks, writing interface specifications, and authoring technical "white papers"
3. Server Operations Manager - Duties include technical guidance/supervision of the server administrators who provide primary administrative support to two highavailability (24/365) production RF-ITV server sites in Germany, and remote administration of ITV-I services at two other RF-ITV server sites in Arifjan, Kuwait and Oklahoma City, OK
